Hello. I need something to throw on my bumper. Doggo’s got some claws and always puts on paw on top of the bumper before hopping out. Consider what I just paid to have it repainted, I’d prefer to eliminate this concern.

Digging through the forums, I found !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which the user happily says works “perfectly” but is not necessarily pretty.

Since I don’t plan doing any heavy-duty loading, I wonder if this is overkill. Other people have recommended a 3M clear strip. There’s an overwhelming amount of 3M products that do this-this-and-that, so I’m trying to find the correct type of the correct size (to cut down) that won’t mess up my paint and not be uselessly thin.

It would REALLY awesome is there was a real protector made for the IS, but there isn’t. The ones off an RX or a Matrix do not fit.

Anyway... What say thee?

Get some helicopter tape. It’s used to protect helicopter blades from damage and mountain bike frames from rock damage.  https://www.amazon.com/ISC-Helicopter-OG-Surface-Tape-Outdoor/dp/B000O6BQMG

Not a bad suggestion. Although the 4" wide one will cost me $70 bucks!

Hm....make a paper template of the area you want to tape and then cut the weird 1 inch strips to fill template?

Look for 3M doggo claw covering. That way all of your surfaces will be protected

This is the helicopter tape I use to tape lights on the racecar, and for a more reasonable price. I think Pegasus also sells it in 14mil thickness, also. It is pretty easy to work with, and probably what I would try first for your situation.

Hmm. Could work. And who would notice except me?

I would just do several layers of clear bra, probably 3M since you can get it on Amazon, or look into other brands that advertise self healing properties and durability. Honestly I think a layer of clear bra would be plenty, thus several would be great, and you wouldn’t see it unless you’re looking.

Plasti-dip? This actually seems like one case where it actually makes sense.

In the past I made something for myself that worked pretty well. I took a cheap, flexible door mat and glued a strip of Velcro to one end. The Velcro held it to the carpet in the back of the car, and I just flipped it out to cover the bumper as needed. I know I’ve seen something similar being sold, but I don’t know what they’re called to look one up.

Depending on how confident you are with cutting to fit, I imagine a sheet of skateboard griptape would actually do a pretty nice job. The only issue would be that dirt could get caked into it fairly easily.

You can get pre-cut (for the car make and model) pieces of clear bra for that. We got one for the top piece of the bumper on my wife’s forester for the very same reason. I’m blanking on the company at the moment, but I’m sure a few googles will get you there. If not I will look when I get home tonight.

Pool “noodles”. Cut a long one in half or maybe 2/3 or 3/4 (depending on desired end result), and take to your nearby Line-X shop. Have them paint-to-match the body color with spray bedliner - not too heavy, you still want some flex and cushioning - and then mount it in whatever way suits you, be it 3M adhesive tape, glue, machine screws, rivets, plasma-melting, whatever.

That was an earnest and serious suggestion! Cost-effective, too!
